Provivi™ Announces Expansion of Leadership Team

Santa Monica, California, February 6, 2019 – Provivi™, an emerging company using pheromones to protect crops from major damaging insects, today announced that it has added three senior leaders to its team: William (Bill) Evanko, Vice President of Engineering; Dr. Thomas (Tom) Clark, Vice President of Field Development; and Dr. Richard (Dick) Pederson, Vice President of Chemistry.

“Provivi’s operations now include 65 team members across four countries,” said Dr. Pedro Coelho, Co-Founder and CEO of Provivi™. “We are strongly committed to hiring the very best and brightest to develop and commercialize our products. I’m pleased to welcome Bill, Tom, and Dick to our mission of establishing pheromones as a universal foundation for integrated pest management.”

“We are delighted to add three exceptional leaders to our team,” said Dr. Peter Meinhold, Co-Founder and CTO. “Bill, Tom, and Dick join us in a pivotal phase during which we scale our low-cost pheromone production technology and launch our products to benefit farmers on a global scale.”

Mr. Evanko brings over 30 years of experience in process development and operations in the specialty chemicals, fermentation, and pharmaceutical industries. An accomplished engineer, he joins Provivi™ after successfully directing scale-up programs with Verdezyne, Inc. and Gevo, Inc.

“I’ve enjoyed working on processes and products that impact the world and want to work on chemicals for the betterment of society,” said Mr. Evanko.  “Pheromones, already used today, can provide new opportunities for improved pest management.  We strive to help the farmer, consumer, and environment.”

Dr. Clark joins Provivi™ with 25 years of experience in agriculture across both academia and industry. He was most recently Monsanto’s Global Corn Insect Management Platform Lead. Dr. Clark is responsible for leading Provivi’s global field trial program.

“As a believer and practitioner of integrated pest management, I share Provivi’s vision on the foundational role of mating disruption in row crops,” said Dr. Clark. “By using pheromones to protect crops, we have the opportunity to provide safer and more sustainable solutions to farmers around the world.”

Dr. Pederson comes to Provivi™ amid a long and successful career in developing olefin metathesis catalysts and their applications for synthesizing chemicals, including insect pheromones.  He is an inventor on 32 patents, including the first patents describing the use of olefin metathesis catalysts for the manufacture of insect pheromones.

“I am very excited to have joined Provivi™,” said Dr. Pederson. “I have been thinking about synthesizing insect pheromones with olefin metathesis for over 20 years.  Provivi provides me with the opportunity to use my olefin metathesis expertise to develop and commercialize insect pheromones at unprecedented cost, scale, and impact.”

Provivi™ is developing a family of safe, effective, and economical pheromone solutions for crop protection. Pheromones are substances that serve as highly selective attractants for insects, allowing the control of deleterious pests while preserving beneficial insects. Provivi’s patented production method enables a step change in the cost of manufacturing pheromones, allowing use of this proven tool in high-acreage crops such as corn, rice, and soy.
